On or before December 1809 at Southampton County, Virginia, Chancery Court File 1810-006, Judkins v. Judkins, the heirs of Mark Judkins filed a petition for a division of the slaves of the estate of Mark Judkins: "To the worshipful Court of Southampton in Chancery Sitting - Humbly Complaining shews unto your worships your orators and oratrices - Eliza Judkins Peggy Judkins Nancy Judkins and Thomas Judkins Sally Judkins and Robertson Judkins infants by their next friend William Lane That a certain Mark Judkins of this County departed this life sometime in the year intestate leaving a number of slaves to whom your orators and oratrices are equally entitled with a certain Polly Judkins eldest daughter of said Mark Judkins who has duly qualified in the Court of this County as administratrix on the estate of the said Mark Judkins - for greater certainty your orators and oratrices beg leave to name the slaves of which said Mark Judkins died possessed and to which they with the said Polly Judkins are equally entitled to wit - Moses, Fanny Susan Chany, Silvy Jenny Tempy and Jim.
